Summary:
Under general supervision, the sterile processing operations coordinator is responsible for assuring cases are pulled in an accurate and timely manner. The coordinator functions as a liaison between the operating room, vendors, and the sterile processing department.

Responsibilities:

· Serves as primary point of contact for the operating room and vendors, during normal shift hours.

· Responsible for ensuring sterile trays (instruments and implants) are available for operating room cases, prioritizing cases by start time through at least 1030am. Attends the operating room daily morning huddle and collaborates with OR staff to identify same day turnover needs and solutions. Communicate anticipated timelines for instrument availability.

· Communicates same day instrument turnover needs to the day shift SPD lead tech.

· Reviews sterile instrument storage for incomplete trays. Identifies opportunities to restock/complete instrument tray and ensures tray is restocked and completed, delegating as appropriate. Communicates items needing ordered to department manager for tray completion.

· Tracks OR case delays related to sterile processing to identify trends.

· Maintain and create instrument count sheets within instrument tracking system.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

    · Knowledge of medical procedures, supplies, instruments and equipment.

    · Knowledge of sterilization procedures for various types of instrumentation and equipment.

    · Knowledge of Infection Control practices.

    · Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

    · Knowledge of applicable computer system software programs.

    · Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.

    · Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

    · Skill in using applicable equipment and instruments.

    · Skill in oral and written communication.

    · Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

    Non-supervisory – Seven (7) years of sterile processing experience. An equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and/or training may be substituted for experience.

    MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

    · Current Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification.

    · Current Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification or obtained within one (1) year in position.
