Job Description
Operate site vehicles to transport personnel, ore, and materials across surface routes while maintaining control in rough terrain and variable conditions. Complete safety inspections by performing thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip checks on brakes, tires, fluids, and safety systems and reporting any hazards immediately. Coordinate with dispatch through radio or digital systems to communicate route changes, load movements, and task updates that support efficient workflow. Monitor equipment performance by observing vehicle behavior, identifying unusual sounds or performance changes, and submitting timely maintenance reports to prevent downtime. A valid driver's (G) license is required. 1 to 5 years' industrial work experience with a demonstrated safe work record. Previous railway (train and/or track) experience is an asset. Heavy equipment (loaders, excavator, rock truck) operating experience is an asset. D license with a Z endorsement is an asset Must be able to pass the required examinations, read and understand safety instructions, books of rules, instructions and regulations, timetables, bulletins, waybills, placards, and other written or printed material. Perform work in accordance with Transportation Department Handbook of Rules and Special Instructions. Must be prepared to work weekends and shifts up to 12 hours including holidays, weekends, days and nights. Must be prepared to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Complete written pre-operation checks on all equipment, provide an end-of-shift report of work completed. Operate or direct movement of diesel locomotives, rolling stock and other Rail equipment on standard gauge track, includes pre-use checks, brake tests, minor repairs such as replacing hose bags and gaskets, tightening airlines and fittings, maintaining sand and fuel supply. Line manual switches, observe switch settings and points. Couple and uncouple cars, locomotives, and hose bags. Maintain and repair track and switches, including cleaning, replacement, snow removal. Operate mobile equipment to load, unload, transport and position heavy equipment, materials, supplies and personnel around and between plant properties, to and from trucks, railroad cars, warehouses, stockpiles, and other work areas.
