Job Summary
Collects patient demographic and insurance information for outpatient services. Collects insurance, co-pay, and deductibles at the point of service. Quickly and efficiently expedites the registration process while providing a positive first impression of the hospital to the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and accurately entered into the registration system in a timely manner.
- Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
- Meets with patients or caregivers before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation.
- Provides clear explanations of processes and addresses patient questions and concerns.
- Communicates with admitting physician offices, nursing unit staff, and other personnel to coordinate admissions and determine placement.
- Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as needed.
- Determines and collects required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers patients to financial counselors for follow-up.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred; Associate’s Degree preferred
- Licensure: N/A
- Certifications: Handle with Care certification required within 30 days of orientation and maintained annually
- FLSA Status: Non-exempt
- Reports To: Director of Patient Access
