Job Description
Become the Voice of Innovation at 5th Axis
At 5th Axis, we’re global leaders in precision machining, automated production, and turnkey manufacturing solutions. From advanced workholding systems to zero-point technology—we design, build, and deliver it all. We don’t just make products; we empower machinists and manufacturers worldwide.
STOP — Read Before Applying
This role is for experienced CNC machinists only.
If you do not have hands-on experience running or setting up CNC machines (3-, 4-, or 5-axis), this is not the right fit.
This is NOT an IT help desk, software support, or general customer service role.
Applicants without machining experience will not be considered.
Built for Machinists Ready for the Next Step
This role is designed for machinists who want to stay in the industry—without standing at a machine all day.
If you’ve spent years running or setting up CNC machines and enjoy solving problems, optimizing setups, and helping others succeed, this is your opportunity to take that experience further.
Be the Expert Behind the Experience
As a CNC Applications Support Specialist, you’ll work directly with machinists, engineers, and manufacturing teams to solve real-world machining and fixturing challenges.
You’ll combine your shop-floor experience with clear communication to guide customers, troubleshoot issues, and ensure they get the most out of 5th Axis products.
What This Job Actually Looks Like
- A machinist calls because a 5-axis setup is losing repeatability—you help diagnose the fixturing issue
- A customer needs to fixture a complex part—you guide them through a workholding solution
- You review photos, prints, and setups to troubleshoot real machining problems
- You help customers improve setup efficiency, alignment, and consistency
- You translate shop-floor challenges into clear feedback for engineering
What You’ll Do Here
- Work directly with machinists to diagnose and solve setup and fixturing challenges
- Provide technical guidance on workholding systems, zero-point solutions, and accessories
- Troubleshoot issues related to clamping, alignment, repeatability, and setup efficiency
- Support applications involving 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining
- Escalate complex technical issues to engineering with clear, actionable detail
- Communicate with customers via phone and email to resolve real machining problems
- Assist with order support (RMAs, replacements, coordination) as needed
- Document technical cases and solutions in CRM/ERP systems (Epicor, Salesforce preferred)
- Deliver product guidance and machining insight to customers
- Share customer and shop-floor feedback to improve products and processes
You Must Have (No Exceptions)
- 3+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience (operator, setup machinist, applications, or similar)
- Experience with 3-, 4-, or 5-axis machining centers
- Strong understanding of setups, fixturing, and machining problem-solving
If your background is primarily IT, software, or general customer support, this role will not be a fit.
What You’ll Bring
- Ability to clearly explain machining concepts and solutions to other machinists
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with attention to detail
- Organized and able to manage multiple technical issues at once
- Experience working with engineers, production teams, or customers is a plus
- Familiarity with ERP/CRM systems (Epicor, Salesforce) is a plus
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or apprenticeship preferred
Who This Role Is Ideal For
- Machinists looking to move off the floor without leaving the industry
- Setup machinists or leads who enjoy problem-solving and helping others
- Applications or process-focused machinists who want broader exposure
Why You’ll Love Working With Us
This isn’t just a support role—it’s your chance to apply your machining experience in a broader, more impactful way. You’ll be the bridge between world-class products and the machinists who rely on them every day.
Ready to Build Customer Success With Us?
If you’re ready to take your machining experience beyond the machine and into a role where you can solve problems, support other machinists, and make a real impact—this is where your next step starts.
