*Multiple Shifts and Statuses available in either Newport Beach or Irvine*
Job Schedule: Per Diem, Part Time, and Full Time
Shifts: Day, Evening, and Night (Shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts)
Area of Specialty: Pathology, Venipuncture, and Microbiology
The Laboratory Assistant I plays a key role in supporting Hoag Hospital’s clinical laboratory operations by ensuring accurate specimen handling, efficient workflow, and exceptional service to patients, clinicians, and external partners. This position contributes directly to Hoag’s mission by upholding high standards of professionalism, safety, and quality in every aspect of laboratory support.
Primary Responsibilities
- Specimen Processing & Preparation
Verifies, processes, and prepares a wide range of specimens for clinical laboratory, reference laboratory, and point‑of‑care testing. This includes performing complex or multi‑step procedures with accuracy and adherence to established protocols. - Communication & Customer Support
Communicates laboratory‑related information—including test results and status updates—to internal and external customers. Ensures interactions reflect Hoag’s commitment to professionalism, clarity, and patient‑centered care. - Operational Support & Maintenance
Performs routine maintenance tasks as directed and maintains supply par levels for the department, including distribution of materials as needed to support smooth daily operations. - Quality Assurance & Documentation
Assists with quality assurance activities such as data collection, documentation, and follow‑up actions to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance. - Administrative Duties
Completes various laboratory‑related administrative tasks, contributing to efficient workflow, accurate record‑keeping, and timely service delivery.

Education and Experience
