Job Requirements

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is a comprehensive 14-hospital network providing diverse academic, community, and specialty medical services across Maryland. As a Patient Care Technician I, you will work under the supervision of professional nursing staff to deliver direct patient care, including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimens. You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to monitor patient status, promote safety, and support patient comfort. Responsibilities also include wound care, urinary catheter management, specimen collection, and responding to patient alarms. This full-time role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, current Maryland CNA or GNA certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with prior patient care experience preferred but not required.



Work Experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in stressful situations. Proficient in learning and utilizing computer systems, skilled in obtaining accurate blood glucose results and documentation, and capable of performing delegated nursing tasks with sensitivity to the age, culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and individual diagnostic needs of patients.
