Job Description
SUMMARY:
The SBA Credit Executive is a senior leadership role responsible for setting and maintaining credit standards, overseeing underwriting quality, and ensuring full SBA program compliance across the lending portfolio. This role will work closely with the SBA Lending Director and executive credit leadership to build a credit culture that is both disciplined and deal-forward, understanding the nuances of SBA collateral and eligibility requirements in a way that enables the production team to move efficiently.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Establish and maintain the division’s SBA credit policy, underwriting standards, and loan approval framework
Review and approve SBA 7(a) loan requests, ensuring compliance with SBA SOP, program eligibility, and internal credit policy
Lead and mentor the SBA underwriting team, providing guidance on complex credits, collateral shortfalls, and structuring decisions
Serve as the primary credit liaison between the SBA lending division and the institution’s Chief Credit Officer
Participate in loan committee and provide credit recommendations on submissions requiring elevated approval
Ensure audit readiness across the loan portfolio, including SBA authorization compliance and file documentation standards
Monitor portfolio performance metrics including delinquency, default rates, and classified assets
Oversee special assets, workout, and liquidation activity in coordination with the Director
Maintain working knowledge of current SBA SOP requirements and regulatory updates
Build and refine the division’s credit process workflows, approval checklists, and underwriting templates
Support the development of SOX compliance documentation and internal controls relevant to the lending function
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related field; MBA preferred
Prior SBA lending experience with significant credit or underwriting responsibility
Prior experience as a credit administrator or senior underwriter within a dedicated SBA division preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Advanced knowledge of SBA 7(a) program mechanics, SOP compliance, collateral requirements, and eligibility standards
Advanced understanding of collateral shortfall analysis, project costs, and working capital structures common in SBA deals
Advanced financial analysis skills
Advanced problem-solving skills

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Standing, walking, bending and stooping required
Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds
May be asked to work supplemental hours periodically
Limited travel required occasionally during and after business hours
