Job Description​

Collects patient samples using best practices for phlebotomy.  Documents receipt of patient samples in Lab Information System (LIS) and prepares them for analysis.

• PRN
• Collects patient specimens in accordance with laboratory's policy, procedures and regulatory standards.
• Correlates patient samples to provider laboratory test orders in the LIS/EMR.    
• Performs and reports Point of Care laboratory testing as required.  
• Uses education and experience to identify and resolve patient circumstances that might interfere with accurate sample collection.  
• Communicates effectively with nursing and unit staff to relay information concerning patient collections.  

Collects processes and or distributes lab specimens to in-house or reference destinations. Aids in preparing specimens for analysis. May assist with routine technical procedures. Prepares blood components as directed including sign in out. Performs diverse clerical duties including order processing report filing patient billing enter retrieving lab data canceling tests problem-solving. Communicates with clients and staff in providing test order or collection information problem-solving or referral and providing test result information per protocol. Aids in maintaining section safety cleanliness quality control and general supply inventory levels.
