Library & College Access Assistant
Position: Library & College Access Assistant
Supervisor: Principal

General Job Description
The Library & College Access Assistant manages library operations while providing support to the FACE counselor and dual credit support teacher. This position combines library management, student support, and college access coordination to help students succeed academically and prepare for postsecondary education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Library Management & Operations
?    Manage and operate the library under the supervision of the principal
?    Maintain a comprehensive and efficient cataloging system for all library materials and equipment
?    Maintain inventory of library materials and equipment; shelve incoming books
?    Assist with the selection, acquisition, and ordering of appropriate books, periodicals, and technology resources
?    Inform teachers and students concerning new materials and equipment
?    Make simple repairs on damaged books and arrange for severely damaged materials to be repaired
?    Notify teachers and students concerning overdue materials
?    Help students learn basic library skills


FACE Program & College Access Support
?    Assist the FACE counselor with managing the FACE Your Future Center
?    Help coordinate and assist with workshops on topics including ACT/SAT preparation, financial literacy, life skills, and education planning
?    Support the coordination of college fairs, in-school college representative visits, and campus visits
?    Assist with data collection and record-keeping for college access services and student participation
?    Help raise student awareness and participation in scholarship programs
?    Provide administrative support to the FACE counselor and dual credit support teacher


Dual Credit Support
?    Assist the dual credit support teacher with student enrollment, documentation, and progress tracking
?    Help coordinate communication between the school and dual credit institutions
?    Provide organizational and administrative support for dual credit program operations
?    Assist students with dual credit program questions and resource navigation


Student Support & Collaboration
?    Respond to students as individuals and serve as a role model
?    Assist licensed personnel with student discipline and maintain student involvement in appropriate tasks
?    Provide supplementary work and supervise independent study in the school environment
?    Assist teachers with special classroom needs and classroom material support
?    Help maintain cohesiveness in the school environment
?    Read to groups of students as appropriate
?    Work as a member of a team and develop positive working relationships with school staff, administration, and counselors


Communication & Technology
?    Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
?    Maintain strong organizational skills and attention to detail
?    Use current technology for instruction, library management, and administrative needs
?    Demonstrate proficiency with databases, software programs, and communication tools

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
?    Some scheduled evening and weekend work may be required
?    Other duties as assigned by the principal
?    Follow district and school procedures
?    Display a desire to work with students and demonstrate a sense of humor
?    Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and patience
?    Work both independently and within a team; facilitate effective collaboration
?    Possess reliable transportation for off-site meetings and professional development


Qualifications
?    High School diploma or GED.  AA degree, 45 college hours which include the necessary educational courses, or passing the ParaEducator exam. Possess a Level III New Mexico Educational Assistant license and any other qualifications as the Board deems appropriate. 
?    Understanding of library systems 
?    Knowledge of higher education and postsecondary education processes preferred
?    Experience working with students in academic and support settings
?    Passion for helping students succeed academically and personally


Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the following: varied sitting, standing, bending, walking, reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, lifting up to 50 pounds (library materials, office supplies, equipment), and moving light furniture as needed.


Equipment/Technology Handled
Computer, phone, copy machine, multimedia equipment, database systems, library management software, internet tools, and current educational technology. Must be willing to learn new systems as needed.


Work Environment
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility, patience, and self-motivation are required. Must be able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hour work may be required.


Terms of Employment
187 Day Contract - EA Pay Scale.
