Job Description

Responsible for working independently without supervision, monitoring hospital and off-site critical systems and possess the ability to diagnosis equipment failures efficiently to provide a safe controlled environment of care for public, patients, medical staff, and associates. All responsibilities referenced below are maintained by the Power Plan Specialist 24-hours/day 7-days/week. 

  • Follows department standard operating procedures (SOP) regarding responses to critical systems equipment failures. 
  • Identifies the location and possesses competency in the use and resetting of fire pull-stations, fire alarm control panels, fire sprinkler isolation valves and hand-held fire extinguishers. 
  • Knows all components of electrical distribution system and department SOP to respond to electrical power interruptions regarding the emergency generators and emergency electrical power system. Performs routine weekly and monthly preventative maintenance and testing of all emergency generators. 
  • Maintains all components of the medical gas system and follows department SOP to response to equipment failures. 
  • Monitors and maintains all power house equipment. Performs daily readings of various plant levels, pressures and temperatures and make adjustments as needed. 
  • Performs daily chemical tests on boilers, softeners and condensate return water and adjust chemical feeds. Opens boilers annually for inspection and calibrates boiler fuel/air ratios. 
  • Responds to calls or alarms regarding problems in regulating temperature. Monitors electrical usage and makes necessary changes. 
  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned 
  • Minimum Requirements 
    • Experience: Three (3) years’ experience working in a journeyman trade capacity. Ability to interpret blue prints i.e. Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical. 
    • Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). Two (2) year trade technical training in an industrial maintenance.
  • Preferred Requirements 
    • Experience: Experience with NFPA-99 and NFPA-99C Medical Gas Systems, Water treatment of cooling towers and Water based HVAC systems. 
    • Education: Certificate of completion from an accredited Technical school specifically regarding steam generation. 
    • Certifications: Any State certified Stationary Engineers license; Grade one Operator (CSJH) Treatment of municipal drinking water. ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Systems Maintenance. HVAC Certification; water treatment
