Description of responsibilities:
 
This is a great opportunity for a senior accounting professional who is looking to step into a Vice President level role and enjoys both strategic leadership and hands on involvement in financial operations. The Vice President of Finance, General Accounting, is responsible for leading and developing a professional accounting team to ensure the long-term financial health and success of the organization. This role involves oversight of daily accounting activities, managing the audit preparation process, directing the development of accounting processes and controls, and acting as the co-lead on the annual budget process. The Vice President of Finance, General Accounting will collaborate with the CFO and Vice President of Finance, Revenues & Capital Assets in the research and implementation of industry and accounting best practices to align financial goals with CRW’s mission.
 
Required experience:
  • Seven years of experience in senior-level accounting management, preferably in a government setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced skills in Excel.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP software.
 
Required Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CRW financial policies, CBA (union contracts), GASB (state and local gov’t) standards and requirements. *
  • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP standards and requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial management including budgeting, monthly financial reporting, and annual audit preparation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of AWWA Financial Management for Water Utilities: Principles of Finance, Accounting, and Management Controls and Principles of Water Rates, Fees and Charges (M1). *
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting software and information systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal water, wastewater and stormwater services. *
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analytics, best practices, and KPI’s for the industry. *
  • Thorough knowledge of team development principles and practices.
  • Ability to apply team supervision principles to practical everyday situations.
  • Ability to understand the historical context for variations in reporting and resolve discrepancies in alignment with financial controls.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to build trust with others in finance and with division directors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities to achieve outcomes.
  • Ability to analyze unexpected results when working on financial reports.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
 
Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or the equivalent in training and experience
