Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree
Licensure/Certification:
Required: Registered Dietitian (RD); Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) within one (1) year of hire
Preferred: Insulin pump certification
Experience:
Required: One (1) year of registered dietitian experience
Preferred: Diabetes education experience

Knowledge of current standards of care in diabetes education and self – management skills, Professional expertise in Medical Nutrition Therapy related to Diabetes Mellitus, Use of evidence-based theories for behavior change techniques in diabetes educationEssential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Provides an individualized assessment and follow-up sessions for Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) Program according to established process. 3. Instructs DSME classes in a group setting in coordination with Diabetes Program educators/staff. 4. Identifies and instructs 1:1 education sessions for DSME as deemed necessary by individualized needs. 5. Documents clearly and precisely in accordance to EMC Standards. 6. Contacts physicians to discuss diet orders, medication adjustments, and additional consultation as needed. 7. Provides appropriate diabetes education to hospitalized patients as needed. 8. Participates in community events and activities to promote diabetes education. 9. Works with other departments to promote positive working relationships related to patient care and education (i.e. Nutritional Services and Center for Healthy Living). 10. Participates in quality improvement initiatives for the Diabetes Education Program. 11. Develops and maintains updated, evidence-based educational tools for nutritional counseling. 12. Works as part of the diabetes team to develop, implement and evaluate curriculum and ongoing diabetes education materials and information. 13. Functions as part of the diabetes team by interacting with other members in both education and clinical situations to promote to promote quality outpatient client services. 14. Provides follow up education as needed per program guidelines. 15. Participates in product evaluation, i.e. client trials, new meters as needed. 16. Develops and updates educational tools for teaching. 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
