Job Description
The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed and conceptual cost estimates for process industry infrastructure projects (with a strong preference for water and wastewater systems). This role requires deep technical knowledge of process mechanical systems, utility piping, yard piping, and industrial equipment installation. The Senior Estimator provides leadership in developing quantity takeoffs, coordinating design scope, supporting project teams, and mentoring junior estimators.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Estimating
• Prepare detailed and conceptual quantity takeoffs for process industry infrastructure, including process mechanical systems, utility piping, and yard piping, with strong preference for water/wastewater experience.
• Review and interpret plans, specifications, P&IDs, hydraulic profiles, process flow diagrams, and related technical documents to determine scope and cost.
• Enter quantity takeoffs and unit pricing into Sage Timberline and generate complete OPCC reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Apply appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to organize estimates effectively and consistently.
• Coordinate vendor pricing for mechanical equipment, process systems, piping, valves, and associated materials.
• Produce accurate, complete, and well organized estimate documentation, ensuring alignment with project scope and design definition.
Collaboration & Coordination
• Work closely with process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and I&C design leads to clarify scope and ensure coordinated estimates.
• Assist project teams during buyout, troubleshooting, and startup for mechanical/process scopes when required.
• Maintain and update estimating tools, databases, historical cost records, and software systems.
Leadership & Mentorship
• Mentor and train junior estimators in estimating procedures, technical discipline understanding, and software usage.
• Promote consistency, accuracy, and best practices across the estimating team.
