Job Summary
An Operation Aide is responsible for various independent and team-oriented operational and custodial duties throughout the Baltimore Convention Center. These duties include breaking down and setting up tables, chairs, risers, stages, dance floors and other show equipment. The position cleans and disinfects, changes trash, cleans floors and completes other cleaning duties throughout the restrooms, facilities, and outdoor grounds. Additional duties include unloading supplies and materials, maintaining the outdoor grounds, and operating motorized equipment.
Essential Functions
- Sets-up and tears down of facility equipment (i.e., chairs, tables, staging, risers, trash cans, dance floors, coat racks, table skirting, carpet, etc.) for all events.
- Interacts with event attendees and clients in a service-oriented environment and answers basic questions/requests or obtains a supervisor to assist
- Performs various custodial and housekeeping functions for the facility, including but not limited to:
- clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies.
- empty, clean, and line wastebaskets and recycling containers inside and outside of facility.
- sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors and clean, extract, vacuum carp.
- wash walls and clean interior and exterior windows.
- polish elevators, escalators, railings, and other metal fixtures.
- dust, polish, clean, arrange and move furniture and equipment.
- follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies as directed
- Operates motorized equipment (i.e. forklift, scrubber, lawn mower, ride on sweeper, skid loader, Cushman cart, vacuum cleaner, and trash compactor.)
- Maintains storage areas, supplies, and equipment as necessary.
- Informs supervisor of inventory needs.
- Performs various facility maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Loads and unloads supplies and materials
- Maintains out-door areas and grounds and assists with snow removal.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
AND
Experience: Have one year of experience as a laborer.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and be eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities and interruptions.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with fellow staff and diverse constituents.
- Ability to stand and walk for large portions of day; may lift and carry objects up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work under high pressure in meeting urgent deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users.
- Ability to identify job related challenges and make corrective recommendations to supervisor.
- Ability to effectively read written instructions, manuals, signs, and product labels in English.
- Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals, tools, etc.
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of equipment including forklift, floor scrubbers, skid loaders, Cushman cart, vacuum cleaner, trash compactor, and other equipment as required.
- Ability to assist general public and show promoters with basic questions/problems or obtain a supervisor who can assist.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, both orally and in writing.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.
