Pay Range: $19-$20.50/hr




Position Summary: This position is responsible for the grounds upkeep around the plant and the condition of the spray field.

 

1. Role in Safe Quality Food (SQF)

  • Waste Water/Building Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the buildings, grounds and waste water meet the Yakama Nation requirements for waste water and SRC guidelines defined under the Preventative Maintenance pillar and the Building Interior/Exterior pillar.
  • Follow all SunRype Food Safety guidelines and Personal Health, Hygiene and GMP’s.

 

2. Responsibilities:

  • Grounds upkeep in and around the plant and spray field.
  • Ensure correct and safe waste water management from screen cleaning to operation of spray field. 
  • Ensure correct and safe solid waste disposal either by removal or incineration.
  • Manage weed control either by herbicide application or mechanical means.
  • Able to operate plant equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Keep equipment in a clean, working condition.
  • Advise plant manager of upcoming maintenance that needs to be scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

3. Job Requirements:

4. Physical Requirements:

This position requires the following physical demands up to 90% of the time:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. 
  • Must be able to work in hot, humid and/or cold conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, squat, crawl, kneel, reach above shoulders, climb ladders and crawl in tight and awkward work places for long periods of time.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.

 

5. Non-Physical Requirements:

A. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.


B. Experience: Experience in irrigation, weed control, farm chemical handling preferred. 


C. Special Skills:

  • Able to work any shift, overtime and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs.
  • Have a working understanding of chemical handling and strict adherence to the safety issue that apply.
  • Able to operate farm equipment used at spray field and around plant grounds.
  • Properly do equipment checks daily and report any problems to maintenance.
  • Able to use proper lock out/tag out procedures when working on equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Personally invested in the success of the business.
  • Motivated, focused and accountable for results.


D. Licensure, Registration, Certification:

  • Valid WA State Driver’s License required.
  • Farm chemical/pesticide certificate preferred.
  • First-aid card preferred.


E. External Relationships:

  • Vendors


F. Internal Relationships:

  • The Waste Water/Groundskeeper Attendance must interact and communicate effectively with all employees of the organization. Effective communication is especially important with the plant manager. 


G. Direct & Indirect Reports:

  • There are no direct or indirect reports.


H. Backup:

  • Backup for Waste Water /Building Mechanic would be another qualified mechanic from the same shift or different shifts to cover the 8 hour shift.
