Key Responsibilities
- Individual and group therapy: Design, assess and implement individual and group speech and language therapy programmes tailored to each student's specific needs, using a wide range of interventions for young people with autism, learning disabilities and other SEND.
- Universal and targeted support: Provide advice and guidance across all three levels of support (universal, targeted and personalised), reviewing and refining the College's universal SaLT offer to ensure consistency and quality across all sites.
- EHCP and target setting: Ensure the successful implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans, setting SMART targets with each student, monitoring progress and reviewing outcomes across all elements of the study programme.
- Caseload management: Manage your own caseload of students effectively, maintaining accurate and timely records in line with College policies, safeguarding requirements and data protection.
- Collaborative working: Work closely with teaching staff, curriculum teams, parents and external agencies to address communication, social, emotional and learning-related challenges and implement learning plans that support retention and achievement.
- Training and development: Provide training and professional development for staff, parents and external professionals on speech and language therapy strategies, and contribute to broader service design and improvement.
- Data and quality: Collect and report data to support qualitative and quantitative analysis of service quality, and actively engage in CPD to keep your own knowledge, skills and practice current.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- A relevant degree or diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
- Proven successful experience of supporting students in a speech and language therapy role
- Proven experience of assessing and identifying students' needs within the role's remit
- Proven experience in speech and language therapy, particularly for young people with autism and/or additional conditions
- Strong experience in clinical reasoning and setting achievable, measurable goals
- Experience of managing a caseload of students
- Experience of tracking young people and supporting them to achieve positive outcomes
- Good knowledge of safeguarding processes and concerns relating to young people
- Good knowledge of the issues and barriers that young people face
- IT literate with sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and role-specific software
- Effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels
- Ability to demonstrate compassion, resilience and a person-centred approach
- Willingness to travel and work across all main College campuses
High level of confidentiality and integrity - Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding
- Knowledge of the latest research evidence and a commitment to applying it to improve student outcomes
- Experience working in an FE, school or educational setting
- Experience contributing to service design or quality improvement
- Experience delivering staff training on communication strategies
