Job Description

The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Library Specialist (Part-time, Regular, Benefited) at the Downtown Chandler Library. The position is scheduled to work Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend shifts as required by staffing and departmental needs.

Downtown Chandler Library: 22 S Delaware St, Chandler, Arizona 85225

Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Chandler Public Library inspires intellectual discovery, creative entertainment, and life-long learning through robust information resources that connect communities to a world of knowledge and new ideas.  As a system of four libraries in all geographic areas of the community, and a collection of nearly 500,000 books, DVDs, and a wide variety of digital resources, we bring people, information, and ideas together to read, learn, connect, and succeed. Our ideal candidate is passionate about customer service, youth engagement, and fostering meaningful connections within the community. This position plays an active role in library operations and supports a variety of services and programs for children, teens, and families. Responsibilities include assisting with story times, planning and facilitating youth and family programs, participating in community outreach efforts, and supporting initiatives that promote literacy and lifelong learning. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative team environment and be committed to creating welcoming, inclusive, and engaging experiences for library patrons of all ages.

Minimum Qualifications
• A High School Diploma or GED; and
• 2 years of general library experience; and
• A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired Qualifications
• Experience working with children, teens, and families in a library, educational, recreation, childcare, or customer service environment.
• Experience planning, coordinating, or facilitating programs, activities, or events for youth audiences.  
• Experience leading or assisting with storytimes, early literacy-based activities, family programming, or other youth-focused initiatives.

This is a regular part-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.  A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4-months should another position become available.   

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
