Position Overview
The IT infrastructure market is crowded, and the stakes are high. We're looking for a PR pro who knows how to cut through the noise, understands the value of a well-placed story, and spots a well-timed award, speaking slot or reporter conversation that can do more for pipeline than a dozen press releases.
You'll help build the North America PR program as the guiding function of a global communications arm — working hand-in-hand with agency partners, regional teams, and internal stakeholders to drive the narratives that helpsSolarWinds stand out. You're equally comfortable building a media strategy, owning an opportunity and coaching an executive before a briefing. You move fast, stay organized, and never let a deadline sneak up on you.
 
What You'll Do
Media Relations & Storytelling
  • Know the media landscape inside and out — who covers what, which outlets move the needle in IT and enterprise software, and where our stories have the best chance of landing. Partner closely with our agency to develop and execute a media strategy that's proactive, targeted, and built for a competitive market. You don't need to own every reporter relationship personally, but you know how to guide agency partners toward the right targets, brief them well, and hold them accountable for results.
  • Translate complex IT and AI narratives into stories that resonate with CIOs, IT ops teams, and the journalists who cover them. 
  • Drive proactive and reactive media strategy, including embargo planning, spokesperson prep, and rapid-response around competitive moments or industry news. 
  • Serve as the quality bar for every outbound communication — from press releases to contributed bylines to executive Q&As — ensuring our voice is consistent, credible, and compelling. 
Research, Awards & Competitive Intelligence
  • Identify the awards, analyst programs, and industry rankings worth pursuing — and build the cases to win them, turning third-party validation into sales ammunition. 
  • Track competitors' PR moves, analyst coverage, and media narratives to keep our team one step ahead and arm sales with the differentiation they need. 
  • Partner with the research team on flagship reports like the IT Trends Report and State of Monitoring & Observability, developing the PR strategies that maximize their reach and shelf life. 
Events & Thought Leadership
  • Scout and secure the speaking stages, panel opportunities, and industry events where SolarWinds executives need to show up and lead. 
  • Build thought leadership programs that keep our spokespeople visible, relevant, and quotable year-round — not just at launch moments. 
  • Support major tentpoles like SolarWinds Day, partner summits, and trade events with integrated comms plans that connect PR to demand and pipeline. 
Project & Program Management
  • Keep a complex, multi-stakeholder comms calendar running smoothly — coordinating across agency partners, regional PR leads, product marketing, and executives without dropping a thread. 
  • Develop and maintain the processes, templates, and briefing materials that make the whole team more consistent and efficient. 
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully — to research faster, draft smarter, and analyze coverage — but always with a human editor's eye on the final product. 
What You Bring
  • 5–7 years of B2B PR experience, ideally in enterprise software, IT infrastructure, or cybersecurity. 
  • A writer's instinct — you can spot a weak headline, sharpen a pitch, and make technical content feel human. 
  • Comfort using AI tools to work smarter, paired with the judgment to know when the human touch matters most. 
  • Sharp competitive awareness; you know how to read the landscape and find the white space. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a track record of managing multiple programs without missing a beat. 
  • A team-first mentality — you share credit, ask good questions, and make the people around you better. 
Education
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
