The Department of Psychiatry, Biobehavioral Medicine Clinic is seeking a licensed Social Worker or Licensed Counselor to provide a wide variety of direct social worker services in a specialty psychiatric setting for a complex caseload of patients with comorbid medical and psychiatric illness including psychosocial assessment, active treatment and psychotherapy, discharge planning, case management, and related documentation in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Job Description
Required Minimum Training and Education
Master’s degree in a social work or social welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or from a social work program or social welfare program offered by a regionally accredited institution. Master's degree in counseling offered by a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred experience
Three years professional social work or counseling experience. Hospital experience in the area of Psychiatry is preferred.
Degree of Supervision
LISW or LPC will operate independently in the clinic and will report to the Division Director.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
Master’s degree in a social work or social welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or from a social work program or social welfare program offered by a regionally accredited institution. Licensed by the State of South Carolina to provide diagnostic evaluations and psychotherapy.
Job Duties
34% - Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in the diagnostic evaluation of clients and the identification of treatment objectives. Collaborates with medical specialties at MUSC for coordination of care.
33% - Interviews patient, family and any other providers to assess the patient's level of functioning, strengths and challenges, and emotional status, and generates written reports and ongoing progress notes for care. Develops a comprehensive picture of the client's service and treatment needs.
33% - Provides individual and group therapy to adult and adolescent patients with comorbid medical and psychiatric illness in an outpatient psychology/psychiatry treatment clinic located within an academic medical center. Collaborates with medical specialties at MUSC for coordination of care.

Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
