Job Description

Band 6 - £39,959 - £48,117

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

 

Pathway 1: Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) Specialist

This pathway is tailored for an ambitious radiographer looking to develop cutting-edge expertise within our high-precision SABR service. You will deepen both your technical and analytical skills across the entire patient pathway.

Clinical Excellence: Expand your clinical expertise in delivery and advanced pre-treatment planning/tasks specific to SABR.

Service Innovation: Actively contribute to service development, protocol design, and quality improvement frameworks; In particular support the development of adrenal and liver SABR.

EP Alignment: Build a robust clinical portfolio mapped directly against the Enhanced Practice capabilities, setting a strong foundation for future advanced roles.

 

Pathway 2: Skin Radiotherapy Specialist

This pathway is designed for a senior radiographer passionate about localised, high-impact care within skin radiotherapy. You will develop specialised, autonomous skills in the fastest growing clinical area.

Advanced Clinical Skills: Master complex clinical mark-ups and advanced localisation techniques specialised for skin malignancies.

Service Innovation: Lead and support quality improvement initiatives to optimise the skin radiotherapy pathway; in particular support the development of a new skin brachytherapy service.

EP Alignment: Develop specialised clinical judgement and a structured portfolio aligned with the four pillars of Enhanced Practice.

Structured Portfolio: Your growth will be guided by a clear, structured portfolio that defines your evolving scope of practice, milestones, and competencies.

Dual-Role Integration: You will maintain your existing job description and team alignment, seamlessly integrating your new enhanced skills into daily practice.

As a senior radiographer you will also be expected to;

  1. Undertake radiotherapy treatment and planning, on a rotational basis, using ionising radiation to treat patients with cancer or benign disease, with both curative and palliative intent
  2. Carry out radiotherapy procedures using a variety of specialised high energy radiation equipment, operating in conjunction with radiotherapy IT systems and various imaging systems
  3. Provide supervision and support to junior staff and students in training
  4. Make confident decision-making as the most senior Radiographer in absence of a team leader
  5. To participate in the departmental shift and on-call system between the hours of 07:00-20:00, 7 days a week
  6. Be accountable for own professional actions and limitations within own scope of practice.
  7. Abide by HCPC code of conduct and maintain HCPC registration

Essential

  • BSc Therapeutic Radiography or DCR(T) or equivalent
  • HCPC registration to practice as a Therapeutic Radiographer
  • Post-graduate education (or be willing to take part in Level 7 education to become Senior Enhanced Practitioner if opportunity arises)

Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate level of post qualification experience, working across both treatment and pre-treatment areas, using a range of modern equipment
  • Experience of working in orthovoltage & brachytherapy is desirable
  • Experience of a range of radiotherapy treatment techniques
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
