2026 Startup Lab Associate – UX Design and Research
Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Summer Associate at Startup Summer, you will be responsible for delivering a product that solves the problem of the end user—without creating new problems for others. Collaborating with other associates with backgrounds in engineering, business, product, etc., you will develop a deep understanding of the problem, its user community, the problem space, and the challenges within it. Your role will focus on owning the problem and the solution's user experience, transforming the product from an initial concept into an elegant, impactful solution that addresses users’ needs while delivering an exceptional experience.
You will:
- Care about and empathise with the end user.
- Research the problem, the pain point, the users' journeys, personas, etc.
- Advocate for end users by translating findings into actionable design goals.
- Leverage modern development tools (e.g., no-code/low-code platforms, ai-assisted coding) to bridge the gap between design and a functional product, ensuring the team maintains velocity.
- Define, document, and communicate objectives, requirements and constraints for product initiatives and releases.
- Collaborate with teammates to prioritise product enhancements based on impact.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or advanced degree from a top-tier university/college, or able to demonstrate significant professional work experience.
- An entrepreneurial work style, you’re a self-starter with a bias towards action.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Open minded. You know what you don’t know and are open to learning new things.
- Empathetic.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
