
Field Engineer
Job Description
Position Value Proposition
As a Field Engineer you will be responsible to assist the Project Management team with field information for scheduling, work coordination, implementation of field work activities, and coordination with contractor requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Coordinate accurate documentation flow to support change orders and field work activities.
- Maintain accurate logs and keep records and files for “as-built” information.
- Coordinate, prepare, submit, and oversee resolution of field related issues, RFI’s, non-conformances, corrective actions, Field Discrepancy Reports (FDR’s), and other issues related to jobsite activities.
- Coordinate activities with PM, PC, Field Supt., Contractor, other trades, design team including Engineer of Record, Inspector(s), Schuff QA/QC personnel, detailers, shops, sub-fabricator(s), suppliers and vendors, as necessary.
- Identify, analyze and review issues and field discrepancies to determine cause and necessary corrective actions.
- Document and coordinate necessary activities required to resolve change order work, non-conformance issues, and field discrepancy items.
- Monitor project processes and coordinate technical aspect of work activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with specified requirements according to applicable codes.
- Monitor, review, identify and coordinate changes, corrective activities, or replacement of changed, missing, or damaged materials and supplies.
- Assist in the on-site QA/QC efforts in preparation for Sequence/Area Turn-Over; monitor, coordinate, and verify that all field discrepancies and non-compliances have been addressed and are ready for sign off.
- Review and maintain all records as required including RFI’s as needed, and distribute response answers and acceptance.
Work Experience
At least five (5) years related experience in the coordination of structural steel projects. Associates degree or training from an approved and accredited technical school in engineering or detailing/drafting may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Structural/Civil Engineering, or Business may substitute for 3 years of the required experience.
Education/Training
High School Diploma or GED required.
Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & Licenses
Ability to read and interpret shop and design drawings. General understanding and knowledge of basic drafting skills, Tekla practices, REVIT and NAVISWORK or other similar 3D modeling software is preferred. Also about fabrication and erection standards, standard technical terminology, common structural steel practices, and drafting room procedures.

Software & Technology
Personal computer; phone; computer software includes: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook. Primavera Scheduling/Contract Manager, Fabtrol, and Tekla references.
Work Environment
Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position. Position requires frequent out of state air/road travel as needed and required. A clean driving record will be required due to required road travel. Current and valid driver’s license and proof of acceptable insurance is required. This position is outdoors. Therefore, being subject to extreme heat conditions can be expected. Travel time is up to 50%.
