Revenue Recognition Manager
Revenue Recognition – ASC 606 / IFRS 15 | RSM US Integrated Services
Location
Gurugram, India
Role Summary
RSM US Integrated Services India (RSM USI) is seeking an experienced Revenue Recognition Manager to lead a team responsible for revenue accounting under ASC 606 and IFRS 15 within our Order-to-Cash (O2C) function. This role owns the accurate and timely recognition of revenue across customer contracts, leads the revenue components of the month-end and quarter-end close, and serves as the technical subject-matter expert for revenue recognition. The Manager builds and develops a high-performing team, partners with Deal Desk, Billing, Collections, FP&A, and external auditors, and drives standardization and automation across the O2C cycle. The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting expertise with proven people leadership and a process-improvement mindset.
As a leadership role within the broader Order-to-Cash function, the Manager directs day-to-day delivery, reviews the work of revenue accountants and analysts, and ensures revenue, invoicing, and cash stay aligned across the cycle while meeting service-level and quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Recognition & Technical Accounting
- Own application of the ASC 606 / IFRS 15 five-step model – identify the contract, identify performance obligations, determine the transaction price, allocate the price, and recognize revenue – and review the team’s revenue conclusions across the contract portfolio.
- Provide technical guidance on the review and interpretation of customer contracts, SOWs, change orders, and amendments, and act as the escalation point for complex or judgmental arrangements (point-in-time vs. over-time, SSP allocation, variable consideration, contract modifications).
- Oversee maintenance and reconciliation of deferred revenue, unbilled receivables (contract assets), and contract liability schedules.
- Review and approve revenue recognition memos and technical position papers for non-standard or judgmental arrangements, and set documentation standards for the team.
- Monitor new accounting standards, contract types, and business models, and assess their impact on revenue recognition policy and processes.
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Lead revenue-related close activities – journal entries, account reconciliations, flux/variance analysis, and roll-forward schedules – and review deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
- Own the preparation and review of revenue and deferred revenue reporting, including disaggregation and other ASC 606 / IFRS 15 disclosure support.
- Manage internal and external audit requests, lead walkthroughs, and resolve audit queries on revenue matters.
- Track and report on close timelines, KPIs, and quality metrics for the revenue process, and drive continuous improvement against them.
Controls & Process Improvement
- Own compliance with SOX and internal controls over the revenue and O2C process, and lead the remediation of control gaps.
- Lead automation and standardization initiatives across revenue and O2C workflows, including system, tool, and reporting enhancements.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of revenue accountants and analysts
- Build the team’s technical capability through training, coaching, and review feedback on ASC 606 / IFRS 15 application.
- Serve as the primary point of contact to client for ASC 606 / IFRS 15 matters
- Partner with onshore team / technical advisors to align on revenue related technical matters as needed
Required Qualifications
- Progressive experience in revenue accounting or a related O2C / finance function, including 3+ years leading or managing a team.
- Strong technical command of ASC 606 and/or IFRS 15, with proven practical application across complex customer contracts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce. CA / CPA / ACCA / CMA qualification required.
- Deep understanding of the order-to-cash cycle and how revenue interacts with billing, AR, and collections.
- Advanced Excel; hands-on experience with an ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday) and a revenue subledger / automation tool (e.g., Zuora RevPro, RightRev).
- Strong analytical, documentation, and review skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated people-leadership, coaching, and stakeholder-management ability in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a shared-services / global capability center (GCC) or professional-services environment.
- Exposure to multi-element / bundled arrangements, SaaS, subscription, or services revenue.
- Experience designing or strengthening SOX controls and leading audit support.
- Experience transitioning or migrating revenue / O2C processes into a shared-services or GCC model.
Key Competencies
- Technical accounting leadership and judgment under ASC 606 / IFRS 15.
- End-to-end order-to-cash process ownership.
- Cross-functional collaboration with Deal Desk, Billing, Collections, and FP&A.
- People leadership – coaching, development, and performance management.
- Ownership, accuracy, and deadline discipline.
- Stakeholder management and clear, executive-ready communication.
- Continuous-improvement and automation mindset.
