GEM International (GEM-I) Training & Development Director
DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: To help GEM’s workers and partners grow and thrive both personally and professionally to reach their maximum, God-given potential.
TEAM: this position will be a part of the Resources & Culture Team
POSITION SUMMARY:
This role exists to equip GEM’s staff in their ministry skill sets so that they may thrive both personally and professionally to reach their maximum God-given potential. It is responsible for overall design, coordination, and implementation of all GEM ministry training.
This is initially an interim role for one year, with the potential to extend into a long-term position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific responsibilities for Director of GEM-I Training & Development
- Exhibit a passion for evangelism/disciple-making in pursuit of GEM’s Vision/Mission.
- Work with ELT (Europe Leadership Team) and GEM Resources & Culture Team to continually identify training needs and evolve training offerings and standards.
- Set and maintain baseline training standards and curriculum for ministry training across GEM’s sending entities and fields of service.
- Maintain the LMS (Learning Mgmnt System) platform for our online learning courses.
- Develop new online and in-person training to meet GEM’s local and global ministry training needs.
- Coordinate and update a variety of ministry training courses for GEM-I as well as the various sending entities. Such courses include but are not limited to:
- Short-term team and intern orientation, training, and debriefs in coordination with GEM Mobilization.
- Disciple course as part of the onboarding process coordinated by the Onboarding Team. Support of onboarding of new contracted GEM missionaries together with Onboarding Team.
- Invite course as part of the Pre-field training led by GEM-I Personnel.
- Bridges training for those working with Muslims
- Iron Sharpens Iron events in coordination with CityReach Leadership Team
- Work with GEM Wellness for Birkman training and Member Care 101
- Facilitate partnerships/relationships with former GEM schools across Europe.
- Facilitate the Training Sessions podcast and webinars on a variety of subjects.
General responsibilities for all GEM Missionaries(see GEM Worker Expectations for additional info)
- Maintain personal spiritual vitality and a healthy family life.
- Engage in personal discipleship for the growth and multiplication of obedient Christ Followers.
- Actively participate in a local church.
- Take at least one day/quarter as a spiritual retreat (Day away with God).
- Maintain prayer and financial support.
- Contribute to the operation and health of your GEM field community (as applicable).
- Participate in field-wide and mission-wide meetings, retreats and conferences as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Persuasive (sales-type) skills; “woo”
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 software.
- Background in GEM culture and leadership (preferred).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY for GEM Training and Development
This position is directly responsible for leading managers of the department and indirectly responsible for all employees within the department.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates hybrid office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, smartphones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position, days and hours of work flexible.
TRAVEL
This position requires up to 25% travel. Most of the travel is international.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university; MBA or MA/MS in related field preferred.
- Preferred formal training in curriculum design or adult education.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience IN related field.
