CDL Driver

Job Purpose

The CDL Driver shall operate in the functions of transporting material in accordance with DOT regulations as well as plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Duties & Responsibilities

 Inspect vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.

 Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.

 Operate trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products.

 Inspect condition of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.

 Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or coolant, or performing minor repairs.

 Maneuver trucks into loading and unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.

 Secure cargo for transport using adequate dunnage and strapping.

 Operating vehicles, mechanized devices or equipment - running, maneuvering, navigating or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment.

 Employee must report to Yard Supervisor for briefing on daily tasks.

 Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Competencies

 Education:

o High School diploma or GED preferred but not required.

o Must have a class A CDL.

 Years of Experience:

o 1 year minimum.

 Job Knowledge:

o Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.

o Manual dexterity required for operating machinery.

o Knowledge of the DOT requirements.

 Personal Competencies:

o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

o Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time.

 Safety:

o Understands all applicable location safety rules and regulations and makes sure that all are being followed.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

 Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.

 Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted on site.

 The ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly.

 The ability to respond quickly to sounds.

 The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.

 The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.

 The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds.

 The ability to work in loud, hot environments/extreme weather while wearing required PPE.

 Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.

 Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
