Title: Information Architecture
Organization: MOX Networks
Position Type: Exempt, Salary
Direct Reports: None
Home Locale: Remote
Working Conditions: Full-time
Position Description
The Information Architecture (IE) is responsible for designing, building, and governing the organization’s data infrastructure with a specific focus on enabling AI and machine learning capabilities.
This role combines hands-on database engineering with strategic architecture decisions and applied AI integration—designing scalable database systems, optimizing performance across production
environments, and identifying opportunities to connect business-critical data sources to AI-driven workflows. The ideal candidate bridges deep database expertise with practical knowledge of modern
AI tools, prompt engineering, and automation platforms. The IE reports to the EVP Engineering, Planning, & Technology but will primarily work on a day-to-day basis with the VP of IT and the VP of Planning & Systems.
Key Responsibilities
Database Architecture & Engineering
Define and maintain the enterprise database architecture strategy, including technology selection, design patterns, and governance frameworks
Design, build, and maintain relational and non-relational database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, SQLite, etc.)
Design logical and physical data models for complex, multi-system environments
Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers for production workloads
Implement and manage database replication, clustering, and high-availability configurations
Lead database capacity planning and performance architecture for high-throughput and mission-critical systems
Monitor database performance metrics and proactively resolve bottlenecks through indexing, query tuning, and schema optimization
Develop and maintain ETL pipelines and data migration scripts
Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures with documented RTOs and RPOs
Manage database security including access controls, encryption, and audit logging
Establish and enforce data standards, naming conventions, and modeling best practices across the organization
AI Integration & Analytics
Identify and evaluate business processes and workflows that can benefit from AI and machine learning solutions
Design and implement prompt engineering strategies and AI-assisted workflows using large language models (LLMs)
Architect data integration, data warehouse, and data lake solutions to support AI/ML workloads and reporting
Collect, clean, and prepare datasets for model training, analysis, and AI consumption
Build dashboards and visualizations to communicate AI-driven insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Research emerging AI tools, frameworks, and techniques and assess their applicability to organizational needs
Design hybrid and multi-cloud data architectures incorporating on-premises and cloud-native services
Monitor AI model and workflow performance in production and recommend tuning as data patterns evolve
Document AI methodologies, data architectures, model assumptions, and decision rationale for transparency and compliance
Support the development of AI governance policies including bias detection, ethical use guidelines, and data privacy standards
Collaboration & Leadership
Collaborate with application architects, development leads, infrastructure teams, and business units to ensure cohesive system design
Automate routine database administration tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
Mentor team members and provide technical leadership on complex data and AI projects
Maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, and operational procedures
Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Initial Deliverables & Priority Projects
The following are near-term deliverables and integration projects expected within this role:
Use MCP (Model Context Protocol) to connect to NetSuite for AI use-cases
Connect with the operational platform NCS for access to detailed customer circuit information
Use latest REST/AI technologies to connect with Ciena Navigator and hardware for detailed instrumentation data
Connect with SolarWinds database for monitoring information
Assist with building a Facilities Capacity and Performance dashboard in LightSpeed
Assist with building an internal circuit performance and testing portal to support MOX Engineering, Provisioning, and Operations
Assist with automating ticket creation in MOX’s ticketing application
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or related field
7–10+ years of experience in database engineering, with at least 3 years in an architecture or lead role
Deep expertise in enterprise database platforms (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and data modeling methodologies
Proven experience designing distributed, highly available database architectures at scale
Experience with data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and analytics platforms
Strong analytical and statistical skills with experience in predictive modeling and data visualization
Experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, and AI automation tools
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate US East Coast and US West Coast time zones
Must be self-motivated, work well within a team environment, and work independently.
Experience with data governance and master data management (MDM) tools
Familiarity with graph databases, time-series databases, or other specialized data stores
Experience in telecommunications or other regulated industries
Experience with REST API integration, MCP (Model Context Protocol), and modern AI orchestration platforms
