We are seeking a passionate and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Special Education team. This position plays an essential role in helping students access their education through the development of fine motor skills, sensory integration, and adaptive functioning.
Purpose Statement
The Occupational Therapist evaluates, develops, and implements therapeutic interventions to support students' ability to participate in academic and functional activities. This includes direct and consultative services, collaboration with staff, and contributions to IEP and Section 504 plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment: Evaluate students' motor coordination, sensory processing, self-care skills, and functional school-related needs using standardized assessments and observation.
- Intervention Planning: Develop and implement individualized therapy plans and IEP goals aligned with student needs and curriculum expectations.
- Direct Services: Provide therapeutic interventions to support participation in school tasks, including handwriting, organization, self-regulation, and daily living activities.
- Consultation & Collaboration: Work closely with educators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate therapeutic strategies into classroom and home routines.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records, progress monitoring, and required documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Equipment & Adaptation: Recommend and support the use of adaptive equipment, tools, and strategies to enhance student access and independence.
- Training & Support: Provide training, resources, and guidance to staff and families on occupational therapy practices and accommodations.
- Program Support: Participate in problem-solving teams, RTI processes, and evaluations as part of the Special Education process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy (Master's degree preferred).
- Certification & Licensure: Missouri Board Certification in Occupational Therapy and current State Licensure.
- Experience: Experience in a school or pediatric setting preferred.
- Skills: Strong clinical reasoning, communication, organization, and time management.
- Knowledge: Understanding of IDEA, IEP development, sensory processing, fine motor development, and assistive technology.
- Abilities: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to diverse educational environments.
National Certification Recognition
FHSD recognizes National Certification as an advanced credential for Occupational Therapists. The district acknowledges the following certification:
- For Occupational Therapists: AOTA Board Certification in Pediatrics
