What you’ll do at DBH:

Northwest Ohio Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Nurse Educator (Psychiatric/DD Nurse Coordinator) to join our team. This role plays a key part in ensuring staff are trained to provide high-quality patient care in a behavioral health hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate clinical staff and lead the assessment and evaluation of nursing needs for patients
  • Develop, coordinate & monitor in-service nursing training programs for nursing staff
  • Train staff in the development of treatment plans, charting, and documentation procedures
  • Coordinate continuing education requirements of nursing staff required by Ohio Administrative Code as well as the standards and codes of the Ohio Board of Nursing
  • Research and identify resources, training references, programs & courses to meet staff competency needs

This is an hourly position covered by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 14 on the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 Pay Range Schedule. Normal Working hours are 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. This is located within our Northwest Ohio Behavioral Healthcare Campus at 930 South Detroit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43614.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications:

Requires current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code; 12 mos. exp. in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in counseling; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations. 

-Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience requirements, but not for the mandated licensure. 

*Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

Position Specific Minimum Qualifications (PSMQ) - 12 months experience in employee professional development or 12 months experience in nursing education; 1 course or 3 months experience in public speaking or effective communication skills.
