Job Description:

Interoperability Engineer

Copenhagen, Denmark Hitachi Rail Denmark A/S Project: F‑bane

About Us

A career at Hitachi Rail will help create a legacy. With operations in every corner of the world, our work goes to the cutting-edge of digital transformation and technology. From the multi-cultural strength of our global organisation to the sustainable and innovative ways we work to bring people together, there's something for everyone to get stuck into. And that's where you come in.

About The Role

The Interoperability Engineer is responsible for managing all activities related to demonstrating compliance with UNISIG ETCS/ERTMS standards and TSI CCS requirements for the project. The role acts as the primary interface to the Notified Body (NoBo) and ensures that all technical evidence, traceability, and certification documentation is complete, consistent, and audit‑ready. The engineer collaborates closely with Safety, Design, Test & Commissioning, and Defect Management to collect, validate, and structure the evidence required for interoperability assessment. Your work will directly contribute to the certification of one of Europe’s most significant ETCS deployments.

The Team:

You are joining a international team, with a down to earth culture where we work together to reach our goals. Sometimes we have deadlines to deliver, and we walk the extra mile. Therefore we also make an effort to do social events together.

Being a part of the F-bane team means to work together, support each other, learn from each other and develop constantly and celebrate the victories as one collective effort.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interoperability Evidence Management - Collect, validate, and structure all evidence demonstrating compliance with UNISIG subsets (026, 040, 054, 091, 104) and TSI CCS.

  • NoBo Interface - Act as the single point of contact for the NoBo, coordinate reviews, respond to findings, and ensure timely delivery of documentation packages.

  • Certification Documentation - Prepare, maintain, and update interoperability reports, traceability matrices, compliance statements, and justification dossiers.

  • Requirements Traceability - Ensure full bidirectional traceability between UNISIG/TSI requirements, design artefacts, test results, and evidence.

  • Verification & Validation Support - Participate in inspections, reviews, and test witnessing to confirm that evidence aligns with certification needs.

  • Non‑Compliance Handling - Identify, document, and follow up on deviations affecting interoperability; coordinate corrective actions with engineering teams.

  • Stakeholder Coordination - Work with Safety, Test, Engineering, and Defect Management to ensure consistent inputs for certification.

  • Defect Management – Keep-up with defects related to Interoperability.

  • Documentation Quality Assurance - Ensure all documents meet NoBo expectations for structure, clarity, completeness, and auditability.

  • Support for Generic & Specific Application - Prepare evidence for both generic product compliance and specific line‑level interoperability.

Your Skills & Experience

We're looking for candidates who bring a strong technical background and a collaborative mindset. You should have:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in engineering, electronics, or similar.

  • Knowledge of UNISIG standards.

  • Understanding of TSI CCS requirements.

  • Experience with Interoperability or V&V in Rail/ETCS/ERTMS or other safety‑critical systems.

  • Experience with Requirements & Configuration Management tools (DOORS, Polarion, etc.).

  • Ability to perform Defect Analysis for interoperability impact.

  • Strong technical documentation skills.

  • Understanding of signalling layouts, interlocking principles, and ETCS concepts (advantage).

  • Fluent English. Danish optional.

You thrive in this role if you:

  • Care deeply about quality, compliance, and doing things right.

  • Enjoy working with structured documentation and technical standards.

  • Communicate clearly and constructively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Take ownership and act proactively.

  • Value teamwork, transparency, and mutual respect.
