Capital Advisory Specialist 

Role Overview


Willis Re is seeking a commercially driven Capital Advisory Specialist to support the development and execution of capital, reinsurance and strategic advisory solutions for insurance and reinsurance clients. This role will sit at the intersection of reinsurance broking, capital markets, analytics and client advisory, helping clients optimise risk transfer, strengthen balance sheets, access efficient sources of capital and respond to evolving market conditions.


The successful candidate will combine strong technical understanding of reinsurance and insurance capital with excellent relationship management, analytical and execution skills. They will work closely with broking, actuarial, analytics, consulting and capital markets colleagues to originate opportunities, shape client strategies and deliver high-quality advisory outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Originate, develop and execute capital advisory and reinsurance solutions for insurers, reinsurers and other risk-bearing entities.
  • Advise clients on capital optimisation, risk transfer strategy, balance sheet efficiency, rating agency considerations and access to traditional and alternative sources of reinsurance capital.
  • Support the structuring, negotiation and placement of reinsurance programmes, collateralised solutions, sidecars, quota shares, excess of loss arrangements and other capital-efficient structures.
  • Partner with Willis Re broking teams to identify client needs, develop tailored propositions and deliver integrated advisory and placement solutions.
  • Analyse underwriting data, portfolio performance, capital requirements, market capacity and pricing dynamics to inform client recommendations.
  • Prepare high-quality client presentations, market submissions, pitch materials, financial analysis and transaction documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, reinsurers, investors, capital providers, rating agencies and other market participants.
  • Monitor trends across the reinsurance, insurance-linked securities, capital markets and regulatory landscape, translating insights into practical client advice.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, tenders, strategic reviews and cross-selling opportunities across Willis Re’s broader platform.
  • Ensure all advisory, placement and documentation activity is delivered in line with internal governance, compliance, regulatory and quality standards.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience in reinsurance broking, capital advisory, insurance investment banking, insurance-linked securities, actuarial consulting, underwriting or a closely related field
  • Strong understanding of reinsurance structures, insurance balance sheets, capital management, risk transfer economics and market placement processes.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements, underwriting data, portfolio analytics, loss trends and model outputs to develop clear strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent client-facing, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and commercially.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-building and stakeholder management capabilities across internal teams and external market participants.
  • Highly organised, execution-focused and able to manage multiple workstreams, deadlines and stakeholders in a fast-moving market environment.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity and judgement, with a strong understanding of regulatory and conduct expectations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with modelling, analytics or data visualisation tools would be advantageous.
