As part of the Finance Operations team, the Manager, Lease Accounting leads a team of analysts and oversees lease interpretation, recovery accounting, and financial reporting across a diverse portfolio. This role is accountable for the accuracy and performance of recovery modelling, tenant billing, and revenue variance analysis.
The Manager partners cross-functionally with Legal, Leasing, Asset Management, Property Management, and Site teams to provide financial insight, influence deal outcomes, and support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
Lease Interpretation & Business Partnership
Provide leadership oversight on lease abstraction and interpretation, ensuring consistent and accurate application of lease terms across the portfolio.
Support the accurate lease setup within accounting systems, maintaining strong alignment between legal documentation and system configuration.
Act as a subject matter expert supporting Legal, Leasing, Asset Management, and Property Management teams.
Provide financial input on lease negotiations, renewals, and amendments.
Oversee resolution of complex tenant inquiries and disputes, providing balanced, well-supported positions that protect revenue and maintain relationships.
Maintain data integrity, audit readiness, and compliance with internal standards.
Recovery Modelling & Financial Performance
Own the financial integrity and performance of recovery models, including CAM, property taxes, utilities, and other recoverable costs.
Lead detailed review and approval of recovery calculations, accruals, and reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with lease terms.
Support the annual budget and forecast processes.
Analyze revenue variances, recovery ratios, and cost drivers; translate findings into actionable insights for senior leadership and business partners.
Identify risks and opportunities within recovery structures and proactively recommend strategies to improve cost recoverability and NOI.
Partner with asset management and site teams on forecasting and rate-setting decisions.
Engage external consultants (e.g., property tax advisors) as required.
Support due diligence and financial analysis for acquisitions and dispositions, ensuring accurate understanding of lease terms and recovery structures.
Reporting, Controls & Continuous Improvement
Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and corporate deliverables.
Maintain strong internal controls and mitigate financial risk.
Lead process improvement, automation, and system enhancement initiatives to increase efficiency, scalability, and data quality.
Drive consistency and standardization across assets, improving transparency and comparability of results.
Leadership & People Management
Lead and develop a team of 2–4 analysts, including coaching and performance management.
Manage workload prioritization and ensure high-quality deliverables.
Review and challenge team outputs to ensure quality, accuracy, and thoughtful analysis.
Provide oversight and review to support informed decision-making.
Foster a collaborative team environment, set clear objectives, monitor performance, and provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and development opportunities.
What You Bring:
5+ years of experience in lease interpretation, recovery accounting, or financial analysis within commercial real estate.
Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex, multi-asset portfolios.
University degree in Business, Commerce, or Accounting.
CPA designation (completed or in progress preferred).
Strong knowledge of real estate accounting (IFRS).
Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Yardi).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence cross-functional partners.
Results-driven, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

The expected salary range for this position is $103,000 to $153,000 per year.
