
Field Business Manager - Fire Equipment Services and Apparatus Services
Job Description
- Lead regional field operations by developing and executing operational plans and budgets; optimizing resource allocation, workforce planning, and utilization; and ensuring fire apparatus and equipment inspections (including aerial devices, fire pumps, ground ladders, ARFF, and related systems) are performed in full compliance with UL procedures, applicable NFPA standards, and customer requirements, while achieving defined operational, financial, and regulatory performance objectives.
- Promote the value of UL Fire Equipment Services through direct customer engagement, articulating the technical rigor and comprehensiveness of inspection programs and positioning differentiated value in competitive markets by emphasizing quality, compliance, and long-term risk mitigation over price-driven decision making.
- Drive business growth by partnering with Sales and Product Management to identify and capture new opportunities, delivering solutions that enhance revenue, profitability, and market share; and strengthening internal and external subcontractors and client relationships through data-driven insights and market analysis.
- Oversee scheduling, resource planning, and service delivery across distributed teams and regions by assigning work, forecasting and aligning staffing to demand, and leading complex, multi-region scheduling and coordination efforts, while managing assets, fleet, and equipment procurement, maintenance, repair, and inventory to ensure operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and consistent, timely service delivery.
- Provide technical leadership, compliance oversight, and escalation support by serving as the primary authority for complex field issues, including interpretation of UL requirements, inspection findings, and regulatory compliance, while leading and maintaining third-party accreditation in accordance with NFPA standards to ensure ongoing compliance across programs, processes, personnel, and documentation.
- Manage commercial activities including pricing, bids, and contracts by leading pricing strategy and adjustments, developing complex quotations, preparing and submitting RFP/RFQ responses aligned with technical and operational requirements, and partnering with internal stakeholders (including grants and contracts administration) to ensure compliance with federal requirements and GSA contract obligations.
- Lead continuous improvement and operational excellence by managing team performance through clear accountabilities and objectives, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, implementing preventive and corrective action systems, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and departmental procedures.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Significant experience in fire service apparatus, fire equipment, and related field inspection and testing programs, with strong knowledge of industry standards, inspection practices, and field operations to effectively lead technical teams and engage clients.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related technical discipline, with ~10 years of directly relevant experience.
- Experience leading or contributing to cross-functional and/or global projects across multiple functions or regions.
- Leads people and operations effectively, including setting performance expectations, managing employee relations, developing talent, and aligning staffing with business needs.
- Applies strong business and strategic thinking, understanding how decisions impact results while building diverse, high-performing teams and supporting operational planning.
- Demonstrates customer focus and execution strength, with solid project management skills and overall business acumen.
Exceptional communicator with the ability to quickly learn, teach others, and translate complex information into clear, concise, and compelling insights.
Advanced analytical capability with proven ability to interpret complex data and financial reports, make risk-informed decisions, and proactively plan for contingencies.
What we offer:
- Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
