Plains is looking for a self-motivated Electrical / Instrumentation Technician to support our Swift Current and area facilities.  As a member of the Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls department, the successful candidate’s duties will include, but are not limited to, ensuring that all equipment at our stations, terminals and gathering systems are maintained and operating at maximum efficiency in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission electrical equipment such as PLCs, instrumentation, motor control centers, motors, switchgear, VFD’s, MOV’s, HVAC’s and other electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements.
  • Inspecting and testing the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using electrical and electronic devices.
  • Consulting manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints to determine tests and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide Electrical support and maintenance to ensure system reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
  • Performing scheduled preventive maintenance for all electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Completing all written and electronic records (i.e. work orders, maintenance reports, calibration sheets, time entry, material requests, drawings) required to document the work in progress and as it is completed.
  • Providing on-call support during non-business hours for emergency response and maintenance break-ins
  • Strong focus on safety and accepts responsibility for their safety performance.
  • Providing technical input and scope development for operations, projects and turnarounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Minimum High School graduate
  • Candidate must be a ticketed Electrical Journey Person
  • 5–10 years prior gas plant, refinery, pipeline or oilfield experience
  • PLC experience would be considered a definite asset  
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of MS Word / Excel, E-mail and Maximo
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and optimization skills are required.
  • Self-motivated and energetic with effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals in a busy field environment
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing
  • Permanent residency within a 100 km radius of Swift Current is a condition of employment
  • A valid Driver’s License is a condition of employment.
