About the Role
Total Wine & More is seeking a Buyer, New World Wine to join our Merchandising team in Bethesda, MD. In this role, you will oversee buying for New World Wines with a focus on supplier and select category management. You will develop assortments that align with customer preferences and drive sales and margin growth, while managing supplier relationships and negotiating costs to deliver optimal business results. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced buyer to shape the New World wine category through strategic sourcing and data-driven decision making while developing open needs, trends, and innovation. You will report to the Director, Wine.
You will
- Manage buying and category responsibilities for New World wines, developing assortments that achieve sales, gross margin, and profitability targets.
- Build and manage supplier relationships with producers and importers while negotiating costs and securing unique offerings.
- Monitor and analyze sales, margin, and inventory performance for assigned categories, developing actionable plans to optimize financial results.
- Identify market trends and emerging opportunities within New World and varietal wine categories, making strategic recommendations to enhance assortment and maximize growth.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Marketing, Promotions, and Store Operations to develop and implement programs that drive category performance.
- Ensure accurate item setup and maintenance within merchandising systems to support seamless operational execution.
- Support private label development initiatives within New World wines, working with suppliers and internal partners to expand offerings.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for your specific New World business, providing insights and guidance to internal stakeholders to support broader and strategic objectives.
You will come with
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 3-6 years’ experience buying, merchandising, or vendor management experience; wine or alcoholic beverage category experience strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales, margin, and inventory data to drive decision making.
- Proven ability to build and manage supplier relationships, including negotiating costs and securing assortment opportunities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to build relationships with suppliers and cross-functional partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with merchandising systems or Microsoft Access preferred.
- Solid knowledge of New World wine regions, varietals, and market trends.
