Job Title: Staff Accountant

Summary
Federal Equipment Company has an opportunity for a Staff Accountant at our Cincinnati, OH facility. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask and support multiple projects in the accounting department, such as accounts payable lead, PP&E lead, month-end close lead, and other critical functions. The candidate will work closely with accounting team members at our Cincinnati, OH location and remotely with other locations as needed to ensure all necessary processes are completed in compliance with established policies and procedures. This candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating strong attention to detail, organizational aptitude, and a high degree of ethics. Additionally, this role involves developing and maintaining relationships with customers and vendors.
The Staff Accountant will also be responsible for owning the monthly forecast process and POC (Percentage of Completion) / EAC (Estimate at Completion) review cadence. The candidate will provide business partnership to program leadership, maintain costing and operational accounting integrity, and manage collections.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Monthly Closing and Reporting
Assist with monthly closing activities for Federal Equipment Company and related divisions.
Load local trial balances into the corporate reporting tool, ensuring timely account reconciliations through team collaboration.
Assist with the financial month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis for assigned accounts.
Prepare monthly reports comparing actuals to budget for assigned accounts.
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
Communicate frequently with the Federal Equipment Company Purchasing team to ensure invoices are approved correctly and efficiently.
Prepare and maintain up-to-date reports of pending AP invoices.
Perform multiple activities in the ERP System, Microsoft Dynamics 365, including creating, approving, posting, and auditing payment schedules.
Handle customer communications, including payment bookings, logs, collections, dispute management, credit checks, and email updates.
Actively engage in P2P vendor master maintenance, AP invoice processing, T&E accounting reimbursements, AP payments, and other account reconciliations.
POC/EAC Governance Process
Conduct standard monthly contract reviews for all major programs.
Review contract value, cost incurred, estimate-to-complete, and projected margin.
Track change orders, engineering changes, labor productivity, and supplier risks.
Escalate margin fade and milestone delays early.
Connect operational risk directly to forecast and cash flow impact.
Identify labor, supplier, quality, and schedule risks early and proactively address them.
Forecasting and Budgeting
Support the budget and forecasting activities for Federal Equipment Company and related divisions.
Manage the monthly forecast process and ensure adherence to the POC/EAC review cadence.
Compliance and Internal Controls
Uphold current practices of Record to Report, GL Accounting, AP aging, GL reconciliation, and AR aging reconciliation.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and other regulatory requirements.
Establish and maintain financial and compliance processes, including strong internal controls, to ensure company records align with generally accepted accounting principles.
Audit and Risk Management
Assist with internal and external audits as needed.
Reconcile and investigate cash variances.
Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to labor, suppliers, quality, and scheduling.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Provide business partnership and support to program leadership.
Actively seek continuous improvements to processes and implement changes where applicable.
Collaborate cross-functionally to address and resolve financial and operational challenges.
Additional Responsibilities
Weekly reviews, including Aging, Bad Debt, Collections, and Dispute Management.
Maintain Certificates of Insurance and Lien Waivers.
Support other corporate projects and initiatives, as assigned.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred), Business, or related field from an accredited university.
Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience in accounting, particularly in financial close processes and meeting tight deadlines. Manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in ERP software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365.
Advanced Excel skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
History of cross-functional collaboration and strong interpersonal skills.
Compliance Requirements:
Must qualify as a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or political asylee, in compliance with ITAR or EAR regulations.
Acceptable proof includes U.S. Passport, Permanent Resident Card, U.S. Birth Certificate, or Naturalization Certificate. Maintenance or renewal of licensing authorization is a condition of employment.
Government authorization may be a suitable alternative upon case-by-case review.
