Position Overview:
The Technical Standards Specialist is responsible for developing, standardizing, and maintaining comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation across the Capital Projects organization. This role will work cross-functionally with engineering, construction, commissioning, and project controls teams to capture best practices and translate them into clear, consistent, and executable standards. The objective is to drive operational excellence, consistency, and scalability across all project phases.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop, write, and standardize SOPs, work instructions, and technical documentation across all phases of capital project execution, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and handover.
- Partner with SMEs (engineering, construction, commissioning, maintenance, project controls) to capture processes, lessons learned, and industry best practices.
- Establish a structured documentation framework, including templates, governance, and version control processes.
- Ensure alignment of procedures with internal requirements, safety standards, regulatory expectations, and industry best practices.
- Lead continuous improvement of technical standards by incorporating field feedback, project retrospectives, and performance data.
- Support development of training materials and onboarding content tied to SOPs and standards.
- Audit and periodically review documentation to ensure accuracy, relevance, and compliance.
- Drive consistency across major projects (e.g., 10X, Independence) to enable repeatable and scalable execution.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical Discipline, or related field (or equivalent years of experience).
- 7+ years of experience in industrial, manufacturing, or capital projects environments.
- Proven experience writing technical documentation, SOPs, or operational standards.
- Strong understanding of capital project lifecycle (engineering, construction, commissioning, startup).
- Ability to translate complex technical processes into clear, structured documentation.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to work across functions and levels.
Desired Qualities:
- Experience in energy, mining, chemicals, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Background in commissioning, project controls, construction management, or operations.
- Familiarity with document control systems and standards frameworks (ISO, PMO standards, etc.).
- Experience supporting large-scale capital project programs.
