The Athletic Leader is responsible for overseeing the safety and operation of athletic programs and events at various park locations. This includes setting up and maintaining facilities, monitoring field and court usage, and reporting incidents. The role requires knowledge of team sports, a focus on safety, and strong communication skills. Working under regular supervision, the Athletic Leader supports the City’s athletic programs, ensuring they run smoothly and safely for all participants.  

This position works a variable schedule outside of normal business hours, including holidays and weekends.
Essential Functions
  • Checks on and inspects for safety athletic programs, facilities, and equipment.
  • Completes facility maintenance checklist.
  • Completes attendance and non-employee accident reports.
  • Enforces facility rules and regulations.
  • Umpires games and keeps score; maintains adequate records

Related tasks:

  • Makes sure half field lights are on/off as needed.
  • Drags lines and rakes fields.
  • Checks facility use permits.
  • Replaces nets, bases, and plates.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge of:

  • Team sports and related rules. 
  • Youth and/or adult sports association

Skilled in:

  • Computer familiarity
  • Customer service
  • Public speaking

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with community officials, employees, volunteer groups, and the general public.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent OR
  • Two (2) years of related work experience in lieu of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
  • Previous experience with recreation registration software
  • Previous experience as a participant or otherwise, with youth and/or adult sports associations

  • Occasionally repeats motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other equipment using motions requiring manual dexterity or fine motor skills
  • Occasionally operates machinery and/or power tools
  • Occasionally operates motor vehicles or heavy equipment
  • Continuously assesses the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Continuously observes details accurately and identifies variances
  • Occasionally lifts or carries objects 50 pounds or less
  • Occasionally pushes or pulls objects up to 165 pounds, utilizing safe assisted lifting best practices and/or wheeled moving assisted tools such as hand trucks, dollies, or built in wheels in order to push or pull objects up to 165 pounds.
  • Occasionally works in a normal office environment with few physical discomforts
  • Occasionally works in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation, or the like
  • Occasionally works in an outdoor area where exposure to animals, reptiles, and/or insects may occur
  • Occasionally works with equipment or performs procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, or muscle pulls
  • Continuously demonstrates regular in-office or on-site attendance without the ability for remote work assignment. 
Essential Employee Designation

When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration that a state of emergency exists, any employee may be deemed essential by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work.
