OVERVIEW
Defense Technology Training Academy
The Defense Technology (DT) Training Academy provides expert-level training for Law Enforcement and Military professionals. To meet this need, the DT Academy offers courses in Less Lethal, Defensive Tactics, Firearms, and Tactical disciplines. With a rich history spanning more than 40 years, the DT Academy has trained generations of Law Enforcement and Military personnel, maintaining a longstanding commitment to professionalism, operational relevance, and instructional excellence.
DT Academy Instructors are recognized as Subject Matter Experts, responsible for delivering high-level, professional training across DT Academy programs. Instructors represent Defense Technology and the DT Academy with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate with host agencies prior to course delivery and manage logistical requirements
Plan, coordinate, and purchase all travel related to DT Academy assignments
Deliver curriculum in accordance with DT Academy standards while maintaining a professional training environment
Maintain expert-level knowledge of assigned courses and ensure instruction reflects the current curriculum
Ensure training environment prioritizes safety, compliance and risk mitigation.
Report all course-related issues, including injuries, product concerns, curriculum updates, handouts, and equipment matter to DT Academy management
Complete and submit all course documentation, reports, and submit travel expenses in a timely manner
Participate in focus groups, course development initiatives, and product testing panels as requested
Be familiar with, and provide information relating to DT products, and other courses and initiatives offered by DT Academy
Support continuous improvement by providing feedback around curriculum effectiveness
Represent the DT Academy professionally when interacting with agency partners and trainees
Requires travel and irregular schedule based on course demand
QUALIFICATIONS
Law Enforcement, Corrections, or Military professional with a minimum of five (5) years of experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of instructional experience in the discipline to be taught
Minimum of three (3) years of operational experience in the discipline to be taught
Certificate of completion from a recognized law enforcement academy, corrections academy, or military training program
Certified trainer in law enforcement or corrections with appropriate training-related certifications
Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
Strong verbal communication skills and ability to instruct large audiences
Ability to conduct safe, practical training exercises, including range-based instruction when applicable
Physical fitness level appropriate to course demands and overall good physical condition
Possess a valid driver’s license issued by their state of residence
Possess a valid US Passport
For Military personnel, a copy of a DD-214 may be requested
