Job Description

The primary purpose of the Associate Athletics Director, Athletics Development position is to lead the major gift program, manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects. This position reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Executive Director of the Mountaineer Athletic Club.

 

Lead the Major Gifts program for the Mountaineer Athletic Club by developing plans and programs to maximize philanthropic giving.

 

Supervise, mentor and monitor progress to goals for three frontline fundraisers. 

 

Assist the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Executive Director in developing both annual and long-term strategies to increase overall major giving and engagement.

 

Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, as defined by working with the WVU Foundation, from initial identification, cultivation, proposal development, solicitation and through stewardship. 

 

Develop and implement an annual action plan to fulfill all quantifiable work performance goals for contacts, solicitations, closed gifts and new prospects identified as defined by the WVU Foundation metrics. 

 

Develop a thorough understanding of the annual giving, ticket priority and premium seating program within the Mountaineer Athletic Club.

 

Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the WVU Intercollegiate athletic program, assuring effective representation of all aspects of the program and needs for private support.

 

Knowledge of using and/or optimizing the use of technology platforms including social media for marketing, communications, data reporting and analysis.  

 

Other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Executive Director.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree preferred.  

 

Minimum of seven years of progressive fundraising related experience.  Preference given to candidates with staff oversight experience.

 

Understanding and knowledge of ticketing and donor software preferred (Paciolan, Salesforce, Blackbaud etc.)
