DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Corporate Tax Operations is responsible for leading the company’s tax compliance, financial reporting, and planning functions. This role ensures adherence to all applicable tax laws and regulations while optimizing the organization’s overall tax position. The Director partners closely with finance, accounting, legal, IT, and business leadership to provide strategic tax guidance and support key initiatives. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a proactive approach to managing tax risk.
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Oversee the internal preparation and review of federal, state, local, and international corporation and partnership income tax filings.
Manage the internal quarterly and annual tax provision process and reporting (ASC 740).
OneSource tax software is utilized for tax compliance and tax accounting reporting.
Manage and analyze legal entity current and forecasted P&L’s and evaluate income tax accounting issues. Analyze monthly variances to determine impact on tax accounting.
Manage quarterly SOX 404 internal control procedures for tax processes and ensure all processes are properly documented and tested. Coordinate with internal and attest auditors for control testing.
Provide tax input for financial budgets, imputed income, cash tax forecasts, accounting entries, deferred tax analysis, and financial accounting.
Manage the Research & Development Tax Credit process and reporting.
Manage Pillar 2 compliance requirements related to international operations.
Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all tax reporting requirements.
Tax Planning & Strategy
Identify and implement tax planning strategies to minimize the company’s effective income tax rate and cash taxes.
Support tax-efficient structuring of transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations.
Assist in providing technical spreadsheet support and analysis for tax planning on acquisitions, restructurings and other business initiatives (i.e., what-ifs, gain/loss calculations, §382) to determine U.S. tax and business implications. Opportunities for involvement in numerous tax, treasury and business special projects will be available throughout the year.
State & Local Tax (SALT)
Manage multi-state tax compliance, including income/franchise, and gross receipts taxes.
Monitor nexus, apportionment, and state tax exposure across jurisdictions.
Lead state tax planning initiatives, including credit utilization, incentive programs, and restructuring opportunities.
Manage state & local tax audits, controversies, and voluntary disclosure agreements.
Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors on SALT matters, including indirect tax implications.
Risk Management & Audit Support
Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess potential impacts on the organization.
Lead responses to tax audits, inquiries, and controversies with tax authorities.
Manage tax reserves and uncertain tax positions.
Implement and monitor process improvements/changes to correct processes that led to unfavorable audit issues and ensure they are not repeated in operations and compliance functions
Business Partnership
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, treasury, legal, and operations.
Collaborate with Information Technology teams to develop and integrate data with OneSource Application Programming Interfaces to continue tax technology enhancements and process improvements
Provide tax guidance on contracts, financing arrangements, and operational activities.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior finance leadership on tax-related matters.
International Tax
Support global tax compliance and planning, including Pillar 2 requirements
Partner with external advisors on international tax matters and cross-border transactions.
Monitor OECD and global tax developments affecting multinational operations.
Leadership & Team Development
Manage and mentor tax professionals, fostering a high-performance team environment.
Assist in developing staff skills and ensuring knowledge of evolving tax regulations.
Coordinate work with attest auditors, external advisors and consultants as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree, MST, or MBA preferred).
CPA, JD, or MST strongly preferred.
8–12+ years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting and/or corporate tax.
Preference for Engineering & Construction industry experience but not required.
Strong knowledge of U.S. federal tax laws and experience with international tax concepts.
Experience with OneSource tax software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office products.
Active learner that is detail oriented.
Proactive self-starter with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete work timely and accurately with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to professionally represent the tax department when interacting with management, other functions in the Company and outside advisors.
Strong problem solving, organizational and time management skills.
Strong process management, improvement, and documentation skills with the ability to develop and implement "Best Practice" processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Experience with multi-state taxation, including income/franchise, sales & use, and other indirect taxes.
Deep understanding of state tax nexus standards (including economic nexus), apportionment methodologies, and unitary/combined reporting.
Experience managing state & local tax audits, controversy, and dispute resolution.
Familiarity with state tax planning strategies, including credits, incentives, and restructuring initiatives.
Knowledge of evolving SALT developments, including digital taxation, and state conformity to federal tax law changes.
