Job Description

Position Summary

The Lift Team Technician will perform safe patient handling and movement. Communicates effectively with patients, families and members of the health care team. Maintains patient handling and lift equipment. Provides education related to Lift Team Program and safe patient handling and movement. Participates in Quality Improvement activities.

Responsibilities

3. Maintains patient handling / lift equipment.
a. Responsible for visual inspection and inventory of patient lifting equipment.
b. Notifies supervisor and/or Bio Medical Department if visual inspection reveals problems with
equipment or the equipment is not working upon use.
c. Applies infection control principles, including universal precautions and appropriate personal protective
equipment.
d. Maintains proper hygiene of lifting equipment, including hover mats, gait belts, slings, and low friction
sheets.
1. Performs safe patient handling and movement.
a. Utilizes good body mechanics when performing lifts and transfers.
b. Delivers care based on educational and developmental needs, age and standard of care.
c. Assesses complexity of lift or transfer needed.
d. Uses appropriate lift practices and devices when performing lifts and transfers.
e. Returns to units (as specified by the supervisor) between rounds to assist the nursing staff.
f. Assists and collaborates with other departments, including off-campus locations, to support patient safety and care.
2. Communicates effectively with patients, families and or members of the health care team.
a. Demonstrates the use of therapeutic and appropriate communication when assisting patients and
families.
b. Seeks clarity and / or direction and provides feedback as needed with nursing staff related to patient
handling activities.
c. Actively listens to concerns and responds with empathy to build trust and reduce anxiety.
d. Uses clear, concise language when explaining procedures or safety measures to patients and staff.
e. Escalates issues promptly to the appropriate department or leadership when communication barriers arise.
4. Provides education related to Lift Team Program and safe patient handling and movement.
a. Mentors health care workers in safe lifting practices and appropriate use of lift equipment.
b. Provides support and assistance to patients and families when practicing transfer techniques for post
hospital setting.
c. CPI-certified Lift Team techs are required to assist with Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) interventions when necessary.
5. Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
a. Provides accurate and consistent documentation of daily patient lifts and transfers on Lift Team Log.
b. Participates in promotion, enhancement and ongoing development of Lift Team Program.
c. Actively participates in all mandatory annual and quarterly trainings to maintain compliance and enhance professional skills. Ensures all certifications remain current to support safe patient handling practices and meet organizational standards.

Minimum Requirements

High School or higher is required.

Less than 1 year in a healthcare setting, EMT, NAI, Firefighter experience and knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and/or exercise physiology preferred.

Heart Saver Requirement within 2 months of employment.

Must successfully complete physical demands assessment prior to employment.
