Job Description
Role Overview
The Special Education Instructional Assistant supervises and assists students with special needs under the direct guidance of the classroom teacher. This role ensures student safety, delivers academic interventions, and supports daily living activities across various school environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Behavior: Deliver small-group academic instruction and consistently implement both classroom-wide and individual student behavior plans.
- Daily Living Support: Assist students with personal hygiene needs, including bathroom supervision and diaper changing.
- Supervision & Safety: Provide direct supervision and assistance during high-transition times, including the lunchroom, playground, and during bus arrival/dismissal.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Must complete Basic Training (5 hours) provided by JSD Special Education Department. Training must be completed within one week of hire as a condition of employment.
Additional 40 hours of training is available through the Special Education department allowing the employee to increase to lane 5 upon completion.
Training must be completed within six (6) months from hire date as a condition of employment.
