100T Captain Licensed Mariner (I)

Under the direction of the Port Captain, the Licensed Mariner I is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the U.S. Army LCM's and Ferry, or Catamaran Class vessels at Kwajalein or Roi Namur Islands. The vessel transit are near coastal areas within Kwajalein Atoll waters, which are designated as "international waters" for maritime regulatory purposes; Operates and maintains the assigned vessel and barges; Operates vessel with due regards to on time departures and safe navigation; Maintains log book and all associated vessel paperwork and certifications; Determines parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment; Supervises a crew of up to three people: an engineman and two deck hands; Conducts on the job-training of assigned personnel as required; Oversees the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Engineer or Engineman; Maintains vessel charts and maritime publications; Schedules crew assignments to include watch stations and vessel sanitation; Oversees the on and offloading of cargo and provisions; Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Operates and maintains the assigned vessel(s);
• Operates vessel with due regards to on time departures and safe navigation;
• Maintains log book and all associated vessel paperwork and certifications;
• Determines parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment;
• Supervises a crew of up to three people: an engineman and two deck hands;
• Conducts on the job-training of assigned personnel as required;
• Oversees the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Engineer or Engineman;
• Maintains vessel charts and maritime publications;
• Schedules crew assignments to include watch stations and vessel sanitation;
• Oversees the on and offloading of cargo and provisions;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred:
  • Degree from a certified college, university, or U.S. Maritime Academy..
• Certifications:
  • U.S. Coast Guard National Master Less Than 100T Near Coastal license. A valid RADAR endorsement; ability to pass a federal background check to obtain and hold a DoD Common Access Card (CAC);
• Preferred:
  • U.S. Coast Guard STCW II/3 Master Less Than 500GT Near Coastal with Master of Tow.
• Experience:
  • One (1) year experience working on vessels of 100T as a captain
• Skills:
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.
  • Ability to prioritized responsibilities to handle a demanding workload is required.
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
  • Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.
  • High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required.
• Working Conditions:
  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).
  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • The Worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
  • The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
