
Men's Support Group Facilitator - Spinal Cord Injury

Job Description: We are seeking a male to lead our monthly men’s Support Group. A Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Support Group Facilitator leads peer discussions, offering emotional support, links to educational resources for individuals living with SCI. They manage group dynamics and foster an environment where members can share experiences and develop coping strategies and tools. This is a contract position.
Due to contractual obligations and the nature of the services provided, this position is limited to male applicants as a bona fide occupational qualification where permitted by law.
Duties and Responsibilities of the SCI Contract Program Coordinator:
- Lead Discussions: Create a safe, confidential, and inclusive environment for individuals with SCI and their families to discuss challenges and triumphs.
- Manage Group Dynamics: Ensure all participants have an opportunity to speak, keep conversations focused, and intervene appropriately if conflicts or emotional distress arise.
- Share Resources: Provide information regarding independent living, local rehabilitation services, adaptive technology, and peer mentoring opportunities (e.g., via the United Spinal Association).
- Administrative Duties: Maintain session attendance records, assess group progress, and collect feedback to ensure sessions are impactful.
Hours: Currently this support group is scheduled the third Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Some research and preparation work is required. Please only apply if you can fulfill the time requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of SCI rehabilitation, community resources, and ADA regulations. Strong interpersonal, organization, and problem solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel. Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Ability to assist in monitoring, evaluating and interpreting outcomes pertaining to contract. Ability to use technology to evaluate and improve programs and services.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree with documentation in counseling, social work. License or clinical license required (LAC, LPC, LMSW, or LCSW). Two years’ experience leading support groups. Lived experience with SCI required per contract. Clean criminal background required.
Working Conditions: This role conducts the support group in person, however attendees can join in person or virtual.
