Job Description

Who We Are Looking For

eFX is one of the critical components for the overall FX trading flow within Global Markets. We are looking for a talented Software Developer with strong skills in building low-latency, high-concurrency financial trading systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with quant developers, business analysts, and global stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain our core eTrading platform.

What You Will Be Responsible For

As a Software Developer, you will:

  • Design and develop high-performance, low-latency Java applications for the eFX eTrading platform, supporting market making, algo trading, pricing, hedging, and position management.
  • Build and maintain core platform modules including pricing engines, trade booking services, FIX-based adaptor integrations, and real-time data processing pipelines.
  • Collaborate with quant developers, business analysts, and onsite teams across Hangzhou, London, and Boston to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Participate in the full SDLC — from requirement analysis, design, coding, code review, to production deployment and support.
  • Optimize system performance through profiling, JVM tuning, ensuring ultra-low-latency execution for FX trading workflows.
  • Contribute to framework evolution to improve reusability and maintainability across eFX applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, collaborating with global support teams for incident management and root cause analysis.

What We Value

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • English communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with global teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Java (JDK 17+), with deep understanding of multi-threading, concurrency, memory management, and JVM internals.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Framework / Spring Boot for building enterprise-grade applications.
  • Experience with FIX protocol and integration with external trading venues, ECNs, and liquidity providers.
  • Familiarity with build and CI/CD tooling: Maven, Git/Bitbucket, Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory.
  • Solid Linux skills — comfortable with shell scripting, system administration, and production environment troubleshooting on RHEL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in time-critical trading scenarios.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a globally distributed team across multiple time zones.
  • Experience with security scanning tools (e.g., BlackDuck) and vulnerability remediation is a plus.
  • Experience with Rust or interest in next-generation messaging frameworks (e.g., Phoenix) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with distributed databases is a plus.
  • Experience with low-latency messaging technologies such as Aeron, or similar high-performance messaging/IPC frameworks is a plus.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to provide on-call support during market hours and participate in off-hours incident resolution when needed.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances and system access as required by State Street policies.
