Job Description
Position Purpose: Responsible for providing comprehensive daily care and oversight of our clients' livestock, ensuring optimal health, nutrition, and overall wellbeing in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities Herdsman:
- Feed all livestock to meet nutrient requirements, including: grain, hay and free choice mineral.
- Sort livestock for embryo implants, pregnancy checks, and to go home.
- Monitor livestock for heats and record.
- Provide communication of livestock issues, such as health concerns, to veterinarians and client service representatives.
- Follow reproductive management including estrus synchronization and assist in pregnancy checks.
- Maintain facilities including but not limited to manure hauling, bedding, feeding, snow removal, box scraping, and fencing.
- Enter livestock procedures and events in production database for accurate billing and record keeping.
Schedule: Saturday 7am-12pm & 1pm-5pm, Sunday 7am-11 & 4pm-5pm plus every third Holiday.
Education Requirements:
Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Working conditions are primarily an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures, wind, and muddy conditions. Animals, especially if handled improperly, can cause injury. Ability to be on feet walking or standing for long periods of time.
Other skills/experience:
- Prior cattle handling experience is helpful.
- Must be good with numbers.
- Must have legible penmanship.
- Computer experience preferred.
