Charge Nurse, Motherbaby Unit
Shift: Full-time, 3rd Shift
The Baptist Health Lexington Mother/Baby Unit is comprised of 42 private rooms and is staffed by skilled and compassionate nurses who specialize in providing a high level of patient-centered postpartum care for both Mom and baby. Our newborn nursery is staffed by two newborn assessment nurses (NANs) and our patients receive breastfeeding guidance from staff along with our knowledgeable, certified lactation consultants. Many members of the team have received extra training and certification in maternal and newborn care. Our focus is assisting families in getting the best start possible and making the transition to home as smooth as possible through the provision of quality care, education, and support.
JOB OVERVIEW:
- Under the direction of Unit Director, Clinical House Supervisor, +/or Designee, provides supervision of workflow and staff for a designated shift in overseeing the efficient functioning of the department.
- Assures the provision of patient care, by addressing performance, risk management, patient, family and physician issues/concerns as appropriate.
- Role models caring behaviors in relationships with others.
- The Charge Nurse is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.
- As a clinical nurse, the charge nurse spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:
- Active Kentucky RN license
- BLS, ACLS and/or other designated unit specific certification training/requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or currently actively pursuing a BSN degree. (BSN degree must be completed within 5 years of starting program)
- Minimum of one year of Registered Nurse experience.
