Job Description

The Loyola Marymount University Digital Veterans Legacy Project (DVLP) Research Assistant will conduct historical and biographical research on assigned veterans interred at local national cemeteries. The Research Assistant will gather and analyze information from archival records, military databases, historical documents, and other research sources to develop accurate and engaging veteran biographies. Responsibilities include writing and editing biographies for publication on the Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) and related DVLP platforms, maintaining organized research notes, and collaborating with the DVLP team on project activities and deadlines.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Conduct historical and biographical research on assigned veterans interred at local national cemeteries.

  • Write, edit, and revise veteran biographies for publication on the Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) and DVLP platforms.

  • Maintain accurate and organized research notes, citations, and source documentation.

  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and project-related activities.

  • Ensure biographies are historically accurate, respectful, and aligned with project standards.

  • Assist with additional DVLP research, educational, or public engagement activities as assigned.

  • Meet project deadlines and communicate progress updates with supervisors.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and ethical research practices throughout all project work.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a bachelors’ degree in psychology, social sciences, or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

  • Knowledge of standard office procedures, word processing, spreadsheet, email and databases. (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).  

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong writing, research, and organizational skills are preferred.

  • Interest in history, public humanities, education, or veteran-related work.

  • Strong work ethic and evidence of ability to conduct both independent and collaborative.
