
IoT Principle Programmer Analyst
Job Description
The Principal IoT Programmer Analyst is a strategic technical lead responsible for the end-to-end development, administration, and governance of the Enterprise-Wide IoT Platform. This role bridges the gap between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), ensuring that machine-level data is securely ingested, processed, and visualized to drive business intelligence. The Principal Analyst will serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for IoT connectivity, establishing corporate standards and mentoring technical teams across the organization to scale IoT capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Development & Administration
- Assist in leading the architectural design, deployment, and ongoing administration of the Enterprise IoT Platform.
- Ensure platform stability, scalability, and security in alignment with BAE Systems’ data security and technology governance policies.
- Manage the lifecycle of IoT devices and gateways, from initial provisioning to decommissioning.
- Develop and implement secure connections between industrial machinery (PLCs, sensors, edge gateways) and the cloud/enterprise platform.
- Perform deep-packet analysis and hardware troubleshooting to resolve connectivity issues across diverse networking environments.
- Optimize data ingestion rates and protocols (e.g., MQTT, OPC-UA, Modbus) to ensure high data integrity and minimal latency.
- Design and develop intuitive, high-impact analytics dashboards for internal and external customers.
- Translate complex machine data into actionable KPIs and visual trends that support operational decision-making.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements for custom reporting and real-time monitoring tools.
- Establish and document Enterprise IoT Connection Standards to ensure uniformity, security, and interoperability across all business units.
- Define best practices for device naming conventions, data tagging, and security authentication.
- Conduct technical reviews of IoT implementations to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Develop comprehensive training materials and documentation for the IoT Platform.
- Lead workshops and training sessions for programmers and analysts across the business to enable self-sufficiency in connecting devices and utilizing platform tools.
- Act as a consultant to various business units to identify IoT opportunities and guide their implementation.
- IoT System Implementation: Proven track record of deploying and Industrial IoT (IIoT) ecosystems from inception to production.
- Manufacturing Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, including shop-floor workflows, production cycles, and the integration of Operational Technology (OT).
- Systems Integration: Experience integrating disparate legacy machinery and modern smart-factory equipment into a unified data platform.
- Lifecycle Management: Experience managing the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for IoT applications, including requirement gathering, testing, and deployment.
- Experience in writing and maintaining API's with standard communication protocols: (e.g., REST API, JSON, XML, etc)
- Expertise in IoT protocols (MQTT, OPC-UA, HTTP/S, AMQP).
- Proficiency in programming languages relevant to IoT (e.g., Python, Java, C#, or Node.js).
- Experience with time-series databases and data visualization tools (e.g., Grafana, Power BI).
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, Firewalls, VLANs).
- Experience working within a defense or highly regulated industrial environment.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks specifically applied to OT/ICS environments.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence technical direction without direct authority.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $96623 - $164259
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
