
Sr. Automation Engineer
Job Description
Summary:
This individual will plan, design, protype, and assemble custom automated equipment solutions for manufacturing processes. The applicant must be capable of analyzing the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and work force to maximize efficiency; and improving production design for manufacturability. The applicant must research and drive procurement and implementation of components and solutions which may be purchased or developed by external suppliers.
Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility will be to lead projects in the development and implementation of automation in mechanical and electronics assembly, machining, and inspection processes. This will include design, specification, directing and managing vendors, installation, and qualification of automated Develop and implement improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly, machining and inspection processes.
- Manage equipment purchase, installation, programming, and maintenance.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for equipment.
- Prepare manufacturing documentation.
- Work closely with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve issues and provide technical support.
- Develop systems and layouts that follow lean manufacturing philosophies of one-piece flow and Kanban, with emphasis on mistake proofing.
- Lead and direct meetings with other team members and hourly associates
- Manage tooling and gauge design and drawings.
- Provide training and guidance to all employee levels in the operation and maintenance of new automated equipment systems and equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- BS in engineering field, or equivalent, from a four-year college or university; or 15 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Manufacturing Automation Engineer with 10+ years of experience
- Lean manufacturing practices (Kanban, Poke-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping)
- CAD (computer aided design), SolidWorks preferred
- Statistical analysis and presentation of large datasets
- Tool and fixture design and GD&T
- Strong Project Management skills
- Understanding and functional knowledge of PLC’s, low voltage controls, three phase power distribution, vision systems. Electronic sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and robotics
- Machine specification and purchase order writing
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration capabilities
- Design and application knowledge of ergonomic and machine safety standards
- MS Office suite
- Communication skills (strong written and public speaking)
